Automatic generation of large scale ERS DEMs and displacement maps

چکیده

To generate large-scale digital elevation models (DEMs) and displacement maps from interferometric SAR (InSAR) data, the operator intervention must be minimized. One labour intensive processing step is traditionally utilization of tiepoints. For ERS, however, ground control points (GCPs) can be tied accurately to radar line number and range pixel without operator intervention. By combining precision orbit data with the time-tagging information accompanying raw ERS SAR data, the pixel location of a GCP with a known latitude, longitude, and height can be calculated. In this paper an assessment of the stability of the critical ERS radar parameters, which are slant range offset and azimuth line time-tags, will be given. Experiments have shown that, for the major part of the tandem period, the relative accuracy of ERS-1/2 tandem data is 1.2 m rms. for the slant range offsets, and 5.3 m rms. for the azimuth time-tags, including both uncertainties in the radar parameters, orbit data, and estimation noise. The absolute precision of the mapping from geographical coordinates to slant range geometry is with the presented method estimated as being better than 10 m on ground.

National-scale Dem Generation Using Ers Tandem Data in Alpine Regions

ERS Tandem interferometry has proven its potential to generate accurate Digital Elevation Models in several cases, but mainly in limited areas and / or where the topography is not particularly severe. Final results are shown in this paper of a project aimed at generating a DEM over all of Switzerland, where steep and varying topography extends over a large part of the whole national territory, ...

Large Area Dem Generation with Ers Tandem Data

The main subject of this paper is an assessment of the potential to generate large scale digital elevation models by means of interferometric processing of ERS SAR data. A DEM of the entire Czech Republic has been produced using Tandem data preferably from the winter period 1995/96. The corresponding processing steps, including data selection, phase unwrapping, height derivation, and mosaicking...

Tests on Determining Digital Elevation Models from Ers Tandem Data

The ERS Tandem Mission from August 1995 to May 1996 provided a large resource of data that can be used for a number of applications in the geosciences, based on the principle of interferometry, referred to in this paper as InSAR. InSAR techniques can provide a new and efficient method of deriving DEMs with little manual input. This paper describes research on the determination of digital elevat...

Developing a New Method in Object Based Classification to Updating Large Scale Maps with Emphasis on Building Feature

According to the cities expansion, updating urban maps for urban planning is important and its effectiveness is depend on the information extraction / change detection accuracy. Information extraction methods are divided into two groups, including Pixel-Based (PB) and Object-Based (OB). OB analysis has overcome the limitations of PB analysis (producing salt-pepper results and features with hole...

Can Radar Interferometry Address Commercial Applications?

This paper addresses a question often asked by industry: can radar interferometry (or InSAR or IFSAR) deliver services on a commercial and/or operational basis? To answer this question two systems based on InSAR for digital elevation model (DEM) generation are considered. One commercial system is the GeoSAR Xand P-band radar aerial mapping system from EarthData. The X-band can deliver digital s...
